On Tuesday, July 18th, the National Association of Diverse Consultants announced how it will work to elevate the names of consultants of color that are all too often overlooked and connect these consultants with each other in order to work together in the mostly-white field of consulting. As Senior Political Director at Latino Decisions Albert Morales put it, “We know how to fish. The problem is we are often told the lake is private.” Madalene Mielke, founder of Arum Group, made it clear that consultants of color and the LGBTQ community are “not looking for a handout; we have expertise and have been doing this work for a long time.”
President of Solidarity Strategies Chuck Rocha noted that there is still a lot of progress to be made, but thanked organizations like the DNC and the DCCC for making real efforts to diversity. On a more local level, Senior Strategist Carol McDonald of 76 Words spoke about the women, LGBTQ and people of color making their mark in their communities and cities. At every level, these consultants should receive support and mentorship. That’s why the NADC website has created a registry of political consultants, fundraisers, lobbyists, and public relations professionals.
The press conference has already made news, a sign that many are excited about NADC bringing minority consultants together. Thanks to all who could attend the conference this morning and to those who followed along on the Facebook livestream! We look forward to increasing our membership as time goes on and hope you will continue supporting the NADC. If you have not registered yourself or your firm, please do so here to join the listed professionals on the NADC website.
